Sweet Vidalia Onion Salad Dressing Marinade is a great way to dress up salads and makes a great marinade for fish.

Sweet Vidalia Onion Salad Dressing Marinade

Sweet Vidalia Onion Dressing and Marinade is one of my favorite store bought dressings. I love it on salads and as a marinade.

One of my favorite ways of cooking salmon is using Vidalia Onion Dressing as a marinade and then as a sauce.

As I was thinking about preparing a Greek salad for lunch, I thought about the dressing and read the back of the bottle and decided to come up with my own version.

I hope you will like the dressing as much as me.

Cast of Ingredients for Sweet Vidalia Onion Salad Dressing Marinade

There are quite a few ingredients, but it all comes together so quickly, that it will be worth the little effort.

No preservatives is always a plus, right? So, make your own homemade dressing and ditch the bottled stuff.

Just dump in all ingredients, except for the poppy seeds into your VitaMix.

Sweet Vidalia Onion Salad Dressing and Marinade is also delicious on my Avocado Chicken Salad recipe.

And turn your VitaMix to high speed and blend well.

Add the poppy seeds and blend on high for just a second, so that they will evenly mix into the dressing and only slightly break a part.

Refrigerate the dressing for a few hours or overnight. I love to store dressing and many other things in these cute little Kerr Half Pint (8 oz) Mason Jars.

Enjoy on salads, use as a dip for fried vegetables, use as a marinade for meat, chicken, fish!

48 calories per serving. What is the serving size? Is Chia seed a good replacement for poppy seeds?

I am winging it here, but it appears to make about 2 cups of dressing; possibly a bit more, maybe a quarter cup.
The top says 16 servings, so figure one ounce is a serving. About 1/8 of a cup.
      Or 2 Tbs.

Is it possible to can this dressing? I have almost a half bushel of Vidalias and want to preserve them so they don’t go bad. If so, how long should they be in a hot water bath?

It tasted really strong of onion.
I am not sure what a medium Vidalia onion looks like, but I used an onion that looked large to me. So, I cut off a sizable chunk of the onion to make it closer to what I envisioned as medium. It still tasted pretty strong of onion. (As in….I wouldn’t want to get too close to people after using it on a salad.!) I wonder if you could at a comment like: 1 medium onion (about [# oz]

I sort of fixed it by adding half again as much vinegar, oil, and sugar.
Also, it says 1/2 tsp fresh garlic. Is that minced….chopped?

In general, I am glad to find this recipe. The warehouse store I shop at stopped carrying the Vidalia dressing I have used for over a decade!

When making this I misread the ingredients and used 1/2 cup water instead of white sugar. I also added the sugar (just distracted). It tastes good, but is very thin. Do you have any suggestions on how to thicken it up?

Oh no, I am sorry this happened to you. That is a lot of water to try to compensate for by making extra batches. A thickener would work. I’ve never tried that, so I cannot attest to the taste or amount. Jill

I made this because I have two heaping bags of Vidalias and most of the ingredients. I subbed two heaping tablespoons of Great value Sucralose (Aldi) for the sugar, and a tablespoon of Grey Poupon (no mustard seed). Half of the oil was olive oil (ran out of the other oil). I also left out the poppyseed, BUT use a shake of an Everything Bagel combo on top of salad.

I have grown tired of looking for Sweet Vidalia Onion Dressing in the store so I looked at a couple of recipes and this one was my first try! It is delicious and super easy to make! I did not have any poppy seeds and put in chia seeds as a replacement.

Did chia seeds work? I know they can get very “goopy” once they’re soaked.

      Hi Susan~

It does make quite a bit. You could always freeze some of the dressing. I would think the dressing would be good for about a week. I will cut the recipe down and post it, to make it easier. Thank you for your question.
