Select Saute on Instant Pot and allow to fully heat.
Add olive oil, ground beef and onion and saute just enough to break up the beef.
Add garlic, ginger, sugar, salt, white pepper, Sambal Oelek (or pepper flakes) and mix through.
Mix in grated Asian pear (or applesauce) and pour in soy sauce.
Drizzle in sesame oil and then hit cancel.
Place trivet into cooking pot over meat.
Add pan with the rinsed rice and water onto trivet. Add 2 ounces of butter. Place top (the one with the holes) onto pan.
Lock on lid and close pressure valve. Cook at high pressure for 4 minutes. When beep is heard, wait 10 minutes and then release the rest of the pressure.
Remove lid and carefully remove pan of rice. Remove lid from rice and fluff rice.
Place rice into each bowl and ladle on beef.
Garnish with chopped scallions, sliced cucumber, sliced radish and shredded carrots. Add a fried egg on top for a delicious flavor combination. Trust me, it tastes better with a sunny side up fried egg, than without.

Notes
For low carb, use a sugar substitute and serve in lettuce leaves. The Korean beef can be used in tortillas for tacos.A "rice" cup is the little plastic cup which comes with multi-cookers, pressure cookers and rice cookers. It is simply a cup (not a unit of measurement) used to measure raw rice. It is not a proper dry measuring cup. A "rice" cup measures similarly to a 3/4 dry measuring cup.
Can Ground Turkey or Ground Pork Be Used?
Definitely, this beef bowl recipe can be made with any type of ground meat. Ground turkey, ground chicken, ground bison, ground pork, ground chicken are all great alternatives.
Ground turkey and ground pork have a lighter flavor, so add a Tablespoon of Worcestershire Sauce to beef up the flavor.
Any type of meat you like is fine and the process is the same. Similarly, in my Instant Pot Meatloaf recipe, any type of ground beef or combination of meat is just fine. In that recipe, potatoes are cooked in the same pot for mashed potatoes.
