This was quite the hit! I made some changes to use things that I had on hand. I used some bland sausages that were being neglected in favour of more tasty ones, and then added a spicy herb and spice mixture to liven up the dish. Instead of canned diced tomatoes, I had ripe tomatoes from the greenhouse, so I diced two cups and added two cups of tomato juice. Potatoes are practically a necessity in our house, so I cut up four medium potatoes and added them to the pot. I used two small cabbages from the garden, so I probably had more cabbage than was required, and to make sure it all got cooked, I cooked it for two minutes instead of one. It was absolutely delicious. Thank you so much for this recipe.

I made this about a month ago and it is WONDERFUL! I used turkey kielbasa and doubled the meat. I used a huge head of cabbage. I made mine in an 8 quart instant pot. Making it again today with beef kielbasa.

This was a simple and delicious recipe!

I used Andouille sausage and butter. We stopped using garlic salt years ago so we could control the sodium, so I used granulated garlic and increased it to 1 teaspoon, other that I made it as written.

Next time I will try a Kielbasa or smoked sausage since I don’t handle spice well and the andouille was a bit spicy for me.

Love this recipe for my instant pot! The only thing I changed was that I added the entire onion instead of half but it was still super tasty. I would have never thought to put turmeric in, we usually season ours with celery salt, onion, and garlic. Hubby and I decided that we need to make a double batch next time because we could have eaten the entire pot in one sitting!

This was amazing!! I had only eaten cabbage and sausage one other time in my life before cooking your recipe last week and this was my first time to cook it. It was amazing!! My husband and I both really enjoyed it. My daughter finally tasted it and she even said it was good, (she is VERY picky!) We are having it again this week. It will be a regular in our house from now on!

    Thanks so much for sharing!!

This recipe is one of my favorites. When searching Google for my instant pot recipes I always look for a version from “thisoldgal”. She is always spot on and I know I’ll end up with something delicious. To this one I added a table spoon of Apple Cider Vinegar. The little bit of acidity opens up the other flavors. Check out her yogurt recipe too. I use it weekly and I have never had a bad batch. Thanks!

This cabbage recipe is, well, beautiful!
At 56 yrs of age, I’ve not enjoyed cabbage quite like this! The acidity of the tomatoes with the fragrant turmeric just made it for me!

I actually left the sausage out bc we do not eat pork, but I replace regular salt with Applewood smoked salt, to make up for the sausage flavor!
    Vegetarian/vegan version is awesome!
This will be a staple in my home!!
    Thank you!

Finally a cook who can make something. I made your Sausage & cabbage last night with a few tweaks and it was great. I added caroway seeds & red pepper flakes to it whil cooking & golden paste & cooked rice after it was done. So refreshing to get a good recipe for a change, every clown with a crayon & internet access is posting crap. No matter what its final outcome its supposed to be its almost alway flavorless soupy mush. This include the smantzy cookbook I ordered.

Hi! I’ve seen lots of your recipes floating around IP community on FB, and I’ve marked several to try since everyone is ravig about them. :-). Quick question about the cabbage in this recipe: only 1 minute? When I made cabbage on its own to go with my corned beef I want to say that it cooked for at least 5-7 minutes. I plan on cooking it in Guinness and using kielbasa, but using your method. Suggestions? Many thanks!

You can always check it after 1 min & add more time. The IP comes back to pressure way faster second time around. If you are at a higher altitude (like me I am at 4800) you may have to cook longer. Hope this helps you or someone else.
