Croquetas de Jamon are deep fried, but I’ve converted them to the Air Fryer, so you will have to check them out. My Air Fryer Croquetas de Jamon recipe is really terrific and I know you will love them too.

Any kind of ham will work. Deviled Ham, Deli Ham, Virginia Ham and so on. I like to use the ham from my Instant Pot Maple Glazed Ham recipe and when we cook ham around here, we make sure to buy more than we need, just to be able to make these Pasta de Bocaditos!
What is Pasta de Bocaditos?
- Pasta de Bocaditos are delicious finger sandwiches made with a fantastic Cuban deviled ham spread.
- Cuban deviled ham sandwiches “pasta de bocaditos” are found in Cuban bakeries in Miami and all around South Florida, along with other fantastic Cuban appetizers, hors d’oeuvres, such as Platanos Maduros [Cuban Plantains ], as well as other fantastic cakes and pastries.
For this recipe you will need a Large Food Processor, so that the paste can be processed until very smooth. Make sure to taste test the paste as some people like a little more of this or a little less of that.
Cheddar cheese sometimes is added to mellow the pepper flavor. I don’t generally add any, but for a change of pace you might enjoy the flavor.
Another delicious recipe using leftover ham is my Instant Pot Jalapeño Macaroni Ham and Cheese recipe. The cheese sauce is smooth with flecks of jalapeno and diced ham. It is nice to serve for New Year’s Day.
If you want roast your own fresh red pepper rather than buying a jar, please check out my How to Roast Peppers recipe.
Using Other Types of Peppers
- I do not recommend using other types of peppers for the ham paste.
- Stick with the jarred red peppers or use a red pepper and roast yourself, as the jarred red peppers are really pimentos and those have a very different flavor than bell peppers.
This is a great way to use up any leftover Holiday Ham.
Another delicious recipe for using up your Holiday Ham is my Holiday Party Southern Ham Buns recipe. Both these recipes are great any time of the year.

How to Freeze Pasta de Bocaditos
- Pasta de Bocaditos Jamón is what is referred to as the ham paste. When making it into a sandwich, we just call it Pasta de Bocaditos. The ham paste itself can easily be frozen and then used for sandwiches later on.
- If we are freezing the ham paste for longer than just a few days, a FoodSaver Vacuum Sealing System is recommended as it will stay fresh for months.
Yes it can and you can thaw and use it at a later day. As “Pasta de Bocaditos Jamón” is just the ham paste part of the sandwich, if you are following a low carb diet, check out my Pasta de Bocaditos Jamón dip recipe where I show you how to eat is as just a dip.
Use a good Bread Knife and cut the Sweet Bread Buns in half. For less sweet roll, potato rolls are really good for with the ham paste too. They are very fluffy and light and make a delicious sandwich.
Super easy recipe!
Sweet Pickles v. Dill Pickles
- Sweet pickles add a nice flavor to compliment the pepper.
- Dill pickles had an odd flavor and is not recommended.
When making Pasta de Bocaditos, Instant Pot White Rice [Instant Pot] Instant Pot Cuban Black Beans {Frijoles Negros} always make a great side dish to any Cuban meal!
