Instant Pot Philly Cheesesteak Pasta with chopped sirloin steak in a rich and creamy provolone cheese sauce cooks quickly in a pressure cooker.

Instant Pot Philly Cheesesteak Pasta

Instant Pot Philly Cheesesteak Pasta

I’ve been working on a series of Instant Pot Sloppy Joes recipes with the last being Instant Pot Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes.

Since I love to turn traditional recipes into pasta, like my Pressure Cooker Steak Fajitas Pasta, which is based on my Air Fryer Carne Asada Recipe {Grilled Meat Tacos}, it only seemed fitting to put together an Instant Pot Philly Cheesesteak Pasta recipe.

This recipe is so delicious and easy to make. The steak cooks in the same pot with the pasta!

Many people tend to shy away from cooking pasta in an Instant Pot, Ninja Foodi or Pressure Cooker, but if done right, not only is it a time saver, it is delicious. My Instant Pot Spaghetti comes together quickly and has been very popular on my blog for three years now.

Ingredients for Instant Pot Philly Cheesesteak Pasta

  • Sirloin Steak, Flap Meat, Chuck Roast – most types of steak will work.
  • Gemelli Pasta – I like to use gemelli as it is a denser pasta and the bite experience is more like a Philly Cheesesteak, but any pasta of your choosing is just fine. Please make sure to adjust the time up or down as needed depending on the pasta.
  • Provolone Cheese
  • Worcestershire Sauce – adds a stronger beefy overall flavor and enhances the flavor of the dish.
  • Butter – adds a richness to the recipe.
  • Olive Oil
  • Onions
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Heavy Cream – adds a creaminess to the pasta sauce.
  • Dry Mustard
  • Better than Bouillon Beef Base – this adds a richness to the recipe and is easier to store than boxes of beef broth.

Any brand of multicooker like an Instant Pot, Ninja Foodi or Pressure Cooker can be used in any pressure cooker recipe.

What is Philly Cheesesteak?

  • Philly Cheesesteak is a sandwich made from grilled thinly sliced seasoned steak and grilled onions.
  • The steak and onions are piled high on a hoagie bun and smothered with Cheese Whiz. Provolone cheese is often found on Philly cheesesteaks either instead of the Cheese Whiz, or in addition to the Cheese Whiz.
  • While sometimes found in Philly Cheesesteak recipes, green peppers are not an original ingredient.

Onions in Worcestershire Sauce

Onions in Worcestershire Sauce

How to Make Instant Pot Philly Cheesesteak Pasta

  • It is always important to heat up the Instant Pot, Ninja Foodi or Pressure Cooker before adding any fat.
  • Onions will get a quick sear with oil and butter to begin the cooking process. They will finish cooking under pressure with the other ingredients.
  • All but the cheese is added and then cooked under pressure.

Instant Pot Philly Cheesesteak Pasta is a very easy recipe with minimal work. You will enjoy my Instant Pot Beef Macaroni recipe too, if you love meat and cheese recipes.

Chop Beef Steak Well

Chop Beef Steak Well

What Kind of Steak To Use.

  • Sirloin Steak
  • Chuck Roast
  • Rump Roast
  • London Broil
  • Flap Steak

If you want to use a pork shoulder roast, that would also work well.

Why Use Steak and Not Ground Beef?

  • I did not want to use ground beef, so to closely mimic the texture of a Philly Cheesecake, sirloin steak, chuck roast or other steak is chopped with a knife into small and thin pieces.
  • Ground beef would have made my Instant Pot Philly Cheesesteak Pasta too much like a Hamburger Helper, which I did not want.
  • Each bite of should have cheese, pasta, steak and onions in whole pieces, not in ground form.

Use a good, sharp knife to chop up the steak.

Tips and Tricks for Instant Pot Philly Cheesesteak Pasta

  1. Fully heat the Instant Pot, Ninja Foodi or Pressure Cooker before adding the oil.
  2. Chop or slice the steak very thin. After all, traditional Philly Cheesesteaks use thin slices of steak on a hot grill.
  3. Slice the onions into about 1/2 to 3/4 inch slices, so that they remain in tact during pressure cooking.
  4. Use a block of provolone cheese and then dice into cubes, so that there will be pockets of cheese throughout the pasta.

If you want to add green peppers to Instant Pot Philly Cheesesteak Pasta, just add them in with the onions.

I hope you enjoy this recipe!

Start off with a nice green salad or a side  of Pressure Cooker Baingan Bharta {Indian Eggplant Stew} and you’ve got yourself a delicious budget dinner that stretches for the whole family.

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 Tablespoon Butter
  • 1.5 cups Yellow/Brown Onion sliced
  • 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon Better Than Bouillon Beef Base
  • 1/4 teaspoon Dry/Ground Mustard Seed
  • 1 pound Steak or Chuck Roast sliced thin and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Sea Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Freshly Ground Black Pepper
  • 3 cups Fresh Water
  • 1/2 cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 pound Gemelli Pasta
  • 8 ounces Provolone Cheese cubed
US Customary - Metric

Instructions

  • Select Sauté/Browning and allow pressure cooker to fully heat.
  • Add oil, butter, onions, Worcestershire sauce, beef base and ground mustard to cooking pot. Saute for three minutes.
  • Add steak, salt, pepper, pasta, water and cream and mix through.
  • Lock on lid and close pressure valve.  Cook at high pressure for 3 minutes. When beep sounds, wait 5 minutes and then carefully release the rest of the pressure.
  • Remove lid and stir. Pasta will continue to absorb the liquid. If necessary, simmer until pasta is cooked to your preference. Add provolone cheese and stir to combine

Notes

Gemilli is a dense type of pasta. Any pasta you like can be used. Check the package of pasta and choose the lesser time. Cut that time in half and then subtract two minutes. That is your pressure cook time.

Side Dishes to Pair with Instant Pot Philly Cheesesteak Pasta

  • Pressure Cooker Baingan Bharta {Indian Eggplant Stew}
  • Pressure Cooker Southern Style Green Beans
  • Instant Pot Chicken Fried Cauliflower Rice
  • Pressure Cooker Cauliflower Soufflé

I was thinking of using broccoli instead of pasta. Do you think that would be possible?
